INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCES:

Thompson, Manitoba, Canada (September, 1994).  Invited by principal investigator Dr. David Fitzjarrald (Atmospheric  Sciences Research Center, University at Albany) to participate in the field observation and data analysis phases  of the joint U.S.-Canada research project BOREAS (Boreal Ecosystem-Atmosphere Study).  I was on-site [60 km  west of Thompson, Manitoba] for seven days.

Shanxi Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Lishi, Shanxi Province, China (May 30-June 14, 1992).  Invited to participate in international conference (in city of Taiyuan, Shanxi) and scientific field excursion to  study experimental soil and water conservation basins in Loess Plateau area of Sanchuang River Basin - near the  county towns of Lishi and Liuling.  Trip included visits to cities and/or areas of Taiyuan, Lishi, Wutaishan, and  Datong (all of Shanxi Province), and Beijing.  See above professional presentations dated June, 1992.

McGill (University) Subarctic Research Station, Schefferville, Nouveau Quebec, Canada (August 1990).  Invited by principal investigator Dr. David Fitzjarrald (Atmospheric Sciences Research Center, University at  Albany) to design and assist with field mapping project of the NASA-funded Atmospheric Boundary  Layer Experiment (GTE/ABLE-3B) in the lichen woodland (boreal forest) near Schefferville.  I was on-site for eight days.

Xibei University, Xian, Shaanxi Province, PR China, (May-June, 1987).  Participated in faculty exchange  program between SUNY-Albany and Xibei U. --  Taught a graduate course (through translation) in the Geography Department, 5 days per week for 5 1/2 weeks. Title of course:  Crops, Climate, Soils and Food Production:  A Geographic and Biophysical Treatment of  Agriculture.  Also visited collaborating Chinese scientist Professsor H-Y. Ji at  Zhongshan University in Guangzhou for several days, and visited Beijing and environs.
