Professional Biography

Dr. Chris Collins is an Assistant Professor in the School of Social Work. He earned his PhD in Social Work from Florida State University in 2023. Dr. Collins teaches research, policy, diversity, and forensic social work. He has worked in the field of social work in the areas of child welfare, victim advocacy, crisis intervention, and acute mental health and brings over 10-years of social work practice experience to the classroom. Dr. Collins is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in FL and a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker MA. His research focuses on gun violence prevention and violence against women.

Interventions that reduce and prevent firearm-related suicide; policies and related evaluations of effectiveness related to safe and responsible firearm storage practices; lethal means safety counseling related to firearm storage practices; suicide prevention; intervention research; implementation science; provider training; motivational interviewing; evidence-informed practice
