Professional Biography

Dr. Ansari, who joined Salem State in 2010, has served in various capacities, including as the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department and Interim Dean of the Maguire Meservey College of Health and Human Services before becoming the permanent Dean. Prior to his tenure at Salem State, he spent over 12 years as a Deputy Police Chief and Police Chief in India. He also served as a human rights officer for the United Nations Mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina (UNMIBH) and worked as a Policy Analyst for the Office of Research and Development of the Boston Police Department.

Dr. Ansari's teaching and research interests include crime measurement, policing, comparative criminal justice, racial and social justice, quantitative data analysis, and neighborhood criminology. He has published a book, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles in high-impact refereed journals, and book reviews. He has also presented his research at international criminology and criminal justice conferences.

Dr. Ansari holds a Ph.D. in Criminology and Justice Policy from Northeastern University. Additionally, he has a graduate degree in Public Policy and Management from the University of Syracuse and IIMB, as well as a Master of Arts in Political Science from Allahabad University.
