Vu Tran (he/him/his) is a scholar and educator who explores the complexities of issues pertaining to age identity, adultism, and intergenerational relationships in higher education contexts. Motivated by his own experiences of troublesome age dynamics in the workplace, he decided time that more scholarship was needed in this area. He earned a PhD in Higher Education and Student Affairs at The Ohio State University, where he critically examined issues of adultism in higher education through his dissertation research.
He approaches his work from an inter-disciplinary perspective, which includes presentations at age studies conferences such as the North American Network on Aging Studies and the Ohio Association of Gerontology and Education. He also positions his work on age from an intersectional lens, where issues of ageism and adultism are considered in context with other forms of systemic oppression such as racism and sexism.
Vu has been in leadership roles within higher education and student affairs for over 15 years, including ACPA's Commission for Social Justice Education and NASPA's Men and Masculinities Knowledge Community. Vu has been in professional higher education and student affairs positions at seven different universities spanning from residence life to academic affairs. Currently, Vu is the Associate Director of Student Services in the McKeown School of Education at Salem State University.
