Professional Biography

Bachelor's in Journalism, Master's in Linguistics and Education, and Ph.D. in Hispanic Literature. Over 300 books published in various genres, including novels, poetry, short stories, essays, plays, and children's literature. Her work has been translated into English, Italian, Portuguese, Croatian, Bulgarian, Rumanian, Chinese, and other languages. As a consultant for Pearson Education, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, McGraw-Hill, and some other educational publishing companies, she has written teachers' guides, anthologies, fiction and nonfiction series, and other educational materials. Canetti has translated over 200 books by other authors. Her translations include several English literature classics, like Dr. Seuss’s books, Curious George, Berenstain Bears, Amelia Bedelia, Mike Mulligan, among others. She has also translated a book by former First Lady Laura Bush and a book by The Beatles. Canetti has received many awards for her work, including the National Literature Award (Ministry of Education, Cuba) 1984, 1985, 1986; the White Rose Literature Award (Best Literature of the Year, Cuba, 1994); Honorable Mention (National Association of Hispanic Publications, California, 1997), Women of Courage (Alianza Hispana, 2012), Tribute of Women (YWCA, 2014). People Magazine (Spanish edition) selected her as a one of the “25 Most Powerful Hispanic Women of the World”, with other influential Hispanic women. www.YanitziaCanett.net
