Professional Biography

Dr. Yvonne Ruiz has a Ph.D in Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology (2002) and a Master of Social Work (1994) both from Boston College. She graduated from New York University with an MA in media studies in 1981 and Syracuse University with a BA in English literature in 1979. She holds licensure as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). She has been in the Boston area since 1991 and has clinical experience in medical social work, community mental health, and behavioral health.

Professional Interests

  • Research focus is on the well-being of Latino children and families
  • Clinical experience working with Latino adults, children, and families in community mental health and behavioral health
  • Practice areas include mental health, Immigration, school-based services, and medical settings
  • Suicide prevention and intervention with Latino youth.
  • Cultural responsiveness with immigrant adults, children and families
  • Leadership positions within the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Massachusetts Chapter 2011-Present
